Cylinder lock (Euro profile). This is the most common door lock in Dubai apartments. The cylinder is the part you put your key into. It sits inside a mortise lock case in the door. How to Replace a Door Lock Cylinder (Step by Step)

This covers the main apartment door cylinder, which is the most common door lock replacement job in Dubai. It takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 1: Open the door. Keep the door open throughout the process. Never work on a lock with the door closed or you risk locking yourself out.

Step 2: Find the cylinder screw. Look at the edge of the door where the lock is. You will see a long screw going into the side of the cylinder. This single screw holds the cylinder in place.

Step 3: Remove the screw. Use a screwdriver to turn it counterclockwise and pull the screw all the way out.

Step 4: Insert the old key and turn slightly. Put your key into the cylinder and turn it about 15 degrees (a small turn). This pulls the cam (the metal tab at the back of the cylinder) in line with the lock body so the cylinder can slide out.

Step 5: Pull the cylinder out. With the key slightly turned, push or pull the cylinder out from either side of the door. It should slide out smoothly. If it is stuck, wiggle it gently while keeping the key turned.

Step 6: Insert the new cylinder. Slide the new cylinder into the same slot. Make sure the cam at the back lines up with the lock body. Insert the key and turn slightly to help it align.

Step 8: Test it. Test the key from both sides with the door open. Make sure it turns smoothly, the latch extends and retracts properly, and the door closes and locks correctly.

Insert the new latch, push the new handles together through the door, and screw the inside plate back on.

Bathroom door lock: Same as bedroom but with a privacy thumb turn instead of a key. The replacement process is identical. Make sure the new lock has an emergency release slot on the outside so the door can be opened from outside in an emergency.
