Tiles are everywhere in Dubai homes. Porcelain and ceramic floors in living rooms, marble in villa entrances, wall tiles in every bathroom and kitchen, outdoor tiles on balconies and terraces. They are tough, cool underfoot in summer and easy to clean, but only when they are laid on a proper base with the right adhesive. Cracked tiles, hollow tiles that sound different when you tap them, uneven edges that catch your toes, and grout falling out are all signs of tiling done in a hurry. Our tilers in Dubai lay new tiles and repair existing ones in apartments, villas and offices.
Tiling work we do
Floor tiling
We lay porcelain, ceramic, marble and natural stone floor tiles, including large-format tiles such as 60 by 120 and 120 by 120 centimetres, which are now very popular in new apartments and villas. Large tiles look clean with fewer grout lines, but they need a very flat base and full adhesive coverage, otherwise they crack or sound hollow. We use levelling clips to keep edges flush and back-butter large tiles so there are no voids underneath.
Wall tiling
Bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, feature walls and laundry rooms. We tile from a level datum line, plan the layout so cut tiles are at the least visible edges, and line up the grout joints with windows, niches and fixtures. Shower niches are built in and tiled with mitred or trimmed edges.
Bathroom retiling
Retiling a bathroom usually means removing the old tiles, checking and renewing the waterproofing in the shower area, and then tiling floor and walls. This is the point where many hidden leaks are fixed for good. For a complete upgrade, including sanitary ware and fittings, see our bathroom renovation page.
Kitchen backsplash
A new backsplash is one of the fastest ways to update a kitchen. Subway tiles, zellige-style tiles, large porcelain slabs or mosaic. We remove the old tiles or, where it is suitable, tile over them, and seal carefully around the worktop and sockets.
Balconies, terraces and outdoor tiles
Outdoor tiles in Dubai face direct sun, heat and occasional heavy rain. They need slip-resistant tiles rated for outdoor use, flexible adhesive, movement joints and a slope towards the drain. Balconies that pond water or leak into the apartment below often need the tiles lifted and the waterproofing renewed. Villa terraces and pool surrounds in communities like Arabian Ranches, The Springs and Palm Jumeirah are a regular part of our work.
Broken and hollow tile replacement
Single cracked or loose tiles can usually be replaced without retiling the whole floor. We cut out the damaged tile carefully, remove the old adhesive, lay a new tile at the right height and regrout. The challenge is matching. If you have spare tiles from the original installation, keep them. If not, we can help find the closest match from suppliers in Dubai, but older or discontinued tiles can be hard to find.
What makes tiling last
- A flat, solid base. We check the floor or wall with a long straight edge and correct it before tiling.
- The right adhesive. Flexible cement-based adhesive for floors, large tiles and outdoor areas, and the correct adhesive for marble and glass mosaic.
- Full coverage. No spot-fixing with dabs of adhesive, which leaves hollow areas that crack.
- Waterproofing in wet areas. Showers, wet rooms and balconies get a waterproof membrane before tiling.
- Movement joints. Large floors and outdoor areas need flexible joints so tiles can expand in the heat without cracking or tenting.
- Good grout. Cement grout for most areas, and epoxy grout for showers and kitchen backsplashes where stains and mould are a problem.
Tile choices for Dubai homes
Porcelain is the most practical all-round choice: dense, low water absorption, hard-wearing and available in endless finishes, including convincing marble and wood effects. Ceramic tiles are lighter and fine for walls. Natural marble looks beautiful in villa entrances and majlis rooms but needs sealing and care, because it etches with acidic cleaners and lemon juice. For floors, matt or textured finishes are safer than high gloss, especially in bathrooms and near pools.
Grouting and sealing
Old, dirty grout can make good tiles look tired. If the tiles are sound, regrouting can refresh a floor or bathroom without retiling. Our sealing and grouting service covers this, along with resealing silicone joints around baths and showers.
Dust and noise
Removing old tiles is noisy and dusty. In apartments, building management often limits noisy work to certain hours, and we follow those rules. We seal off the work area with plastic sheeting, cover furniture and protect lifts and corridors. If you want to avoid tile removal altogether, ask about laying SPC flooring over existing floor tiles instead.

Can you replace one broken tile?
Yes. We cut out the damaged tile and lay a new one at the right height. Matching is easiest if you have spare tiles.
Why do my tiles sound hollow?
Usually the adhesive did not fully cover the back of the tile. Hollow tiles crack easily, so we lift and refix them.
Can you tile over existing tiles?
Sometimes, on walls or floors with firmly bonded tiles and enough height. We check at the site visit.
Do you waterproof before tiling a shower?
Yes. Showers, wet rooms and balconies always get a waterproof membrane before tiling.
Do you supply the tiles?
You can choose your own from any supplier, or we can help you source them. Adhesive, grout and waterproofing are included in our quote.
