Even with a clean filter, dust can still reach the evaporator coils inside your indoor unit over time. When these coils get coated in grime, they cannot absorb heat from the air properly. Your AC runs but the cooling is weak, and the room temperature barely drops.
The outdoor condenser unit has the same problem but worse. It sits outside in Dubai’s heat, dust, and sand. During shamal season (dust storm months from March to May), the condenser coils can get packed with debris in just a few weeks. When the outdoor unit cannot release heat, the whole system struggles and your AC is not cooling the way it should.
How to check it: Look at your outdoor unit. If the metal fins are visibly covered in dust, sand, or debris, or if items are placed around it blocking airflow, that is reducing your cooling. For the indoor coils, remove the filter and look at the metal fins behind it. If they look dark or coated rather than shiny, they need cleaning.
How to fix it: Surface dust on indoor coils can be gently brushed off. But a proper deep clean with chemical washing should be done by a professional. 3. Low Refrigerant (AC Gas)
Refrigerant is the gas inside your AC system that absorbs heat and produces cold air. If the refrigerant level drops, your AC literally cannot make cold air. The system will run, the fan will blow, but the air coming out will be lukewarm or barely cool.
Low refrigerant almost always means there is a leak somewhere in the system. In Dubai, the constant expansion and contraction of copper pipes due to extreme heat during the day and cooler nights can cause tiny leaks to develop over time.
